I am enjoying some of the heats, waves are small but supposed to pick up over the next couple of days. I hope the swell goes mental so we can see some solid rides.

Treachery camp

What a nice weekend of waves, took a trip up north with the family and got rewarded with perfect uncrowded surf for 3 days in a row, I shared this peak (below) with only one other guy from Maroubra, and after 2 hours of taking turns on the sets, we became almost like best mates.

How to Claim

There is no more tangible form of stoke than a surfer claiming a wave. But choosing the proper claim after a killer wave can be tricky. Not to worry, all questions will be answered in this video as we look at a variety of claims to add to your surfing repertoire.

So whether you slash the juicy nectar out of the shore pound on a skim, get spit out on a body board, perch ten on a log, or just need a few more points to get through your next heat, you'll know exactly what to do after watching this

Bonzer Mechanics

I Have been curious about the Bonzer and how they work. Where else to go to than the Campbell brothers site. Below is an extract from his page

How the Bonzer System works:

"The primary purpose of the Bonzer system is to efficiently organize water flow. We have done this by designing fin and bottom systems that work in a synergetic fashion in order to maximize the use of the energy that is created by the water passing through the tail area of the board. When you’re doing a turn, the water travels diagonally across the bottom of your board. The Bonzer side fins have a base totaling 9-3/4” on each side, and a maximum depth of only 2-3/4”. The angle, combined with the shallow depth of the fins, allows the fins to come in and out of the water with little resistance. This makes rail-to-rail transition much easier, which in turn allows you to keep your board on the rail with much less effort".

I have been a bit skeptical about this design however here is a little video of Taylor Knox ripping on a Bonzer in Mexico. It seems like the board maintains heaps of speed through the turns and also down the line (drive).

Wetsuit fashion

G Day

I have been watching the pro surfing lately, admiring the level of surfing, the equipment and the wetsuits Matt Willkinson has been using.

I am kinda predicting (speculating) that this trend will catch on with more people using themed wetsuits vs the black "pro surfer" look. After all surfing is all about style and individuality, is it?

Grandpas and lazy mofos will rule the line up...one day ?

Will they sit a few meters out from the pack in the line up and get all the waves ?

According to them, there is a code, what they call a JETIQUETTE

This is an extract from their site:

"With Power comes Responsibility. While this is an old saying that may seem tired to some, at WaveJet, it is a mantra to live by. WaveJet was created to enhance the way people interact with water, but NEVER to alienate the others with whom they share that space."

So next time you ride, make sure to keep in mind these rules of WaveJet-tiquette...so that you never come off as a WaveJerk!

- Don't cheat. WaveJet was not created to let you cut into the lineup and slide in on another rider's waves.
- Stay in line and wait your turn!
- Follow the normal rules of paddling, don’t WaveJet through the heart of the lineup.
- Share. Just because you can catch all the waves doesn’t mean you should.
- Be nice. You're the lucky one with the WaveJet - show a little love for the surfers around you!

I hope we dont see them soon,

Cheerio

Bobby Martinez part II

Dear crew,

Just a follow up from Bobby's interview post below. I scored this NEW interview (after he went and fucked the whole ASP) of Bobby sitting down in a quieter place and explaining himself a bit further and his criticisms.

I was happy to hear that I was not the only one claiming a "marketing strategy", the beauty of speculating...

Home made paint job

G'day ladies and gents, boys and girls, here is where I got the idea on how to paint my board, simple however very effective.

Here is one of my board (click on image to enlarge):

You can also combine colours for different effect. This is my brothers board here (click on image to enlarge):

The cost of this paint job was : 2 x cans of paint ($7 each) = $14 and the palm we got from a palm tree down the road, cost $0

Not bad for a home made paint job huh!

Teahupoo and the Billabong pro 2011, dia historico.

Happy days
